Amazon Prime Video: How do I use Watch Party?

In recent months, to bring their users closer together, many streaming services have been creating and offering new features to share more moments together, even remotely.

We are thinking in particular of simultaneous listening on Spotify, or GroupWatch on Disney+. Today, it’s Amazon Prime Video’s turn to make a new option available to its members, called Watch Party, to enjoy simultaneous viewing between friends.

We explain what it consists of and how to use it.

Watch Party, how does it work?

Even though it’s still only a Beta version, Prime users can, or will be able to, watch movies and series at the same time as their loved ones and remotely, like the GroupWatch mentioned earlier.

This built-in feature allows you to invite up to 100 participants. On the other hand, it is not compatible internationally, so your relatives living in another country will not be able to join you.

Watch Party is accessible through all browsers except Safari and Internet Explorer, and on FireTV devices, via the Prime Video app. It is included at no additional cost in your Prime membership.

Use Watch Party

To enjoy Watch Party, you will not be asked to download a third-party extension. For good reason, it is natively installed by Amazon Prime.

Its use is very simple, you will only have 4 steps to follow:

  • Find the movie or series you want, and then click on it.
  • Next to the Episode box, select the Watch Party icon represented by a hat with confetti.
  • Choose a name for your nickname, and then click Create Watch Party.
  • Copy the link and share it with your friends via Email, Facebook or Twitter.

As the host of the co-viewing session, you will have the power to start, stop, and pause the Watch Party if necessary. These actions will also apply to the rest of the participants.
